Official Summary:

A bold new chapter for STAR TREK begins here, in an all-new series that shows you what life is like for cadets at the galaxy’s greatest school! Witness the student days of the iconic cast before they joined the Enterprise! Plus, meet an all-new group of students as they embark on bold new adventures of their own! The first new characters in the STAR TREK movie universe make their mark here.

My Review:

(First, let me just say that I am a very big fan of the cover of this book, it perfectly matches the art of the graphic novel (which isn’t always the case and that drives me mad). The art style fits Star Trek very well, with bright colors, and a clean style, each species is definite, well designed and each character is easy to identify, even in busier panals.)

This is the first of the Star Trek Academy books I’ve read, it also happens to be a graphic novel and it features the characters from the current movies. This book has two alternating stories being told, one of the characters we know and love, before becoming the enterprise crew, which is exactly the sort of expanded canon I find enjoyable, and one with all new, but no less interesting characters, including a female vulcan cadet.

Saying to much would give a lot a away, this isn’t the most complex story, but I makes for a quick fun read, and reads like fan fiction in the best possible way.

If you’re a fan of star trek, especially the new movies, and you like expanded canon books, you’ll definitely like this one!
