I tag anyone who wants to do this Christmas tag!

The Christmas Tag

Monday’s are my tag days, and since its Christmas (or it will be, I’m scheduling this) I thought a Christmas tag was appropriate! (I found this online somewhere, can’t remember where).

1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

In my family, we have dinner on Christmas eve (noche buena) as a family, and then we open presents on Christmas morning. Immediate family presents at home, and then the rest of the day is spent at our grandmother’s house to open the rest of the presents.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

Not a specific one. All my christmases have been good. And mostly revolve around reading new books, and fighting open toys for the little ones.

4. Favourite festive food?

Pumpkin pie, the christmas ham, yuca…

5. Favourite Christmas gift?

I’ve gotten a camera, a 3DS, a pandora bracelet… I don’t really have a favorite all time gift.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?

Those christmas cookie candles!

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Dinner as a family at my grandmother’s house, with all the cousins, aunts and uncles.

8. What tops your tree?

Some years an angel, some years a star, some years a santa hat because everything else is too annoying to set up and untangle.

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

I mean, I wanted pokemon to be real, and I wanted a (big) brother but neither of those things are physically possible and I was five so…

10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Family and time of from school.

Bookish Baking: Hot Cocoa (Polar Express)

Last recipe of the year!
Quick, easy, delicious, and season appropriate, even if the lack of snow makes it unnecessary where I live.

Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups of milk
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Candy canes – for garnish
  • Whipped cream – for garnish

Directions:

  • Stir together all ingredients over a low heat in a large pot over the stove.
  • Cook for about 30 minutes, until chocolate is fully melted and combined.
  • Serves about six.

I love The Polar Express. I saw it for the first time by accident, I was on a summer camp field trip (you know, when they play reruns of movies cheap in the summer for camp groups?) and we were meant to watch either Rugrats or Jimmy Neutron, I can’t recall, but my uncle (a chaperone) took us into the wrong theater and we saw The Polar Express instead.

I thought this was a good Christmas-y recipe for my third and last of the month.

Let me know what you think, and how it turns out if you make it!

Books I’m Bringing On Vacation

fullsizerender-29

So, today I’m leaving for a cruise and I won’t be back until the 9th, so I won’t be posting/commenting/etc. Just a heads up.

Before I left through, I just wanted to tell you guys the books I was bringing with me! (And maybe I’ll actually stick to a TBR for once…)

Here they are:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:

I have been excited and anxious about this in turns, but I think I need to suck it up and get it done now. I have thus far avoided spoilers. I shouldn’t push my luck…

Replica:

My best friend got this for me for Christmas this year. It a dual POV Sci-fi type story and I’m super excited!

My True Love Gave To Me:

This is a book of wintery-christmas-new-years stories, so its perfect for this time of year!

Lock & Mori:

I started this book like two months ago and was loving it, but never finished because Chemistry decided I didn’t need to do things like sleep, let alone read. The sequel just came out, so I want to finish this one.

Nowhere Near You:

I got this arc a month ago, and it is one of my most anticipated 2017 releases. But life got in the way and I haven;t read it yet. I intend to read it now.

Dreamology:

This book is a cute little contemporary about a girl and a guy who share dreams, but when he meets her in real life, he acts like she doesn’t know her. It seems like a cute read to breeze through!

I hope you all had a great Christmas/holidays! What books are you reading?

Black Friday and Christmas Haul

Its been FOREVER since I’ve done a book haul. I did a mini-birthday one when I got Hammer of Thor, Gemina, and The Illustrated Philosopher’s Stone…then a Miami Book Fair Book Haul…and haven’t done one since.

I don’t buy books often, basically when I have gift-cards or am taken somewhere like an event.

But, holidays mean sales and gifts  which means little self control and lots of books!

So, lets do this!

BLACK FRIDAY

All these books above are from book outlet. They had a great sale. I got these 8 plus 2 for my best friend for about $45 total including shipping. So not bad.

I’ve already read Because You’ll Never Meet Me, but I loved it so much I needed a physical copy. I’m excited to read the rest!

I have a signed copy of Ghostly Echoes, so I needed to pick up Jackaby and Beastly Bones.

I have My True Love Gave To Me, so getting Summer Days and Summer Nights was a given.

The others? They are expanded universe/making-of books for some of my favorite shows…so I needed it!

CHRISTMAS

img_9919img_9918

Replica was a gift from my best friend Ana, she knew I’m been dying to read it. I got her Beastly Bones for Christmas (she’s currently reading Jackaby) and made her some bookmarks. I also got her Because You’ll Never Meet Me and a ACOMAF art print card, but that was an early birthday present.

The Fantastic Beasts cards are from my friend Patty. We’ve been theorizing over the series ever since we saw it opening night. Our goal before we graduate is to get Ana as obsessed with Harry Potter as we are.

Not a book or bookish, but kinda cool. I went to a christmas party and we did a gag-gift-white-elephant-game-thing and this is what I needed up with: A make your own flashlight. Kinda neat.

The bracelet and book charm are from my grandma. Inside the quote says: “Ignore the things you have to do, and just enjoy a book or two”. Its so cute.

The little medical staff charm is from my aunt, since I want to be a doctor.

Misc. presents from family that I just thought we cool.

fullsizerender-30

My dad got me the board game. It seems like fun!

This is from my other grandma. I’m so excited to finally read this series!

Not my present, I got them for my dad because Hitchhiker’s Guide and The Princess Bride are his two favorite books. He really loved them!

Now, what did you guys think? What did you get? I also got some Barnes and Nobles cards so you know another book haul is coming soon.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas/what-ever you celebrate!
