April 26th: Authors You Want to Read More From
–Talk about some authors that you’ve only read one or a few books from, and you NEED to read more!

(In no particular order)

1 – Cassandra Clare

I LOVE Cassandra Clare’s books. I’ve read all three Infernal Devices, The Bane Chronicles, and the first 5 Mortal Instruments.

I have yet to finish City of Heavenly Fire, Tales of Shadowhunter Academy, or start Dark Artifices (despite owning two copies of Lady Midnight and preordering Lord of Shadows).

This is a problem that I need to rectify.

2 – Rick Riordan

I’ve read MOST of rick’s books, so its not “just a few”. I am however, drastically behind.

I’ve read all the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books.

I’ve read The Red Pyramid.

I haven’t finished The Kane Chronicles, The Greek Gods/Heroes books, or even started Magnus Chase OR Trials of Apollo. Despite owning the hardcovers.

I know.

3 – Sarah J Maas

I have read Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Both because my best friend thrust them at me for long car trips.

But thats it. Haven’t continued. And the only Maas book I own is A Court of Mist and Fury (signed!).

My best friend is ready to murder me.

4 – Ransom Riggs

These next two are slightly cheating.

I haven’t really read a book by Random Riggs yet. But he’s here, because I saw the Miss Peregrine’s movie and LOVED it. I also own the boxset of the trilogy and I need to, like, get to it.

5 – Leigh Bardugo

Also slightly cheating as I haven’t really read a book by Leigh Bardugo. Though I have read her short story from Summer Days and Summer Nights.

I have a signed Six of Crows sticker – which means of course I am in dire need of a copy. And her books sound right up my ally (thieves? I’m a sucker for. Epic fantasy with a villainous love interest? YES PLEASE YES!).

What do you think?

Are any of you in the same boat as me?

What authors do you need to read more of?

Are any of these your favorites?

Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Things That Make Me Want To Read A Book

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Anyone can participate and its a lot of fun, so I highly encourage it!

Let me know if you’re a part too!

Today’s Prompt:

April 18Top Ten Things That Will Make Me Instantly Want To Read A Book – so yeah basically any topic or theme or ANYTHING (ie if X person recommends it) that will make you instantly want to pick up a book.

Here are ten random things that make me want to read a book, in now particular order. There are tons of things besides these that make me want to read a book, but well liked tropes and interesting plots are pretty much a given – I don’t think I need to mention them.

1- Relatable Sounding Characters

This is one basically a given for everyone, but relatable is different for everyone as well. If a character is geeky/nerdy, a reader etc. I want to read the book. If the character is hispanic-american then I want to read the book.

2- Characters With My Name

This one is kind of dumb. But I like seeing how my name is represented in the book world. Sam in Before I Fall is the opposite of my personality. Sam in The Inexplicable Logic of My Life IS ME TO A TEE. I like seeing that.

3 – Asexual Representation

Its a really uncommon representation, and its one that I identify with. I want to read more of them (feel free to give me recs!). I’m dying to read Tash Hearts Tolstoy because of this and number 1).

4 – Great Recommendations

If a friend or a ton of book bloggers rave about a book, it immediately goes on my TBR, whether I was initially interested or not, whether I know a thing about it or not.

5 – The Author

If an author I love writes a book, I’ll probably give it a shot, even if the synopsis doesn’t draw me in at all.

6 – A Pretty Cover

This is a terrible thing to admit. But its also honest. Everyone does it don’t even lie. We’ll all suffer through a mediocre book just to have a gorgeous cover on our shelf.

7 – Expanded Canon

I LOVE expanded canon books, the Doctor Who and Star Trek ones especially. I pick these up a lot from second hand stores. And I want to read the ones that are like the books from the show. Like “The Bro Code” from HIMYM or “Pawnee Greatest Town In America” from Parks and Rec. I love these sorts of books.

8 – Villain Redemption Arc

There are many tropes I’m a sucker for, this is the one I’ve seen the least on. I’m a sucker for a redemption arc, bad-guy-turning-good-because-he-falls-in-love sort of story. Like Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer!

9 – Unique Formatting

Illuminae caught my eye from the unique formatting of documents. Because You’ll Never Meet Me is told in letters. Eliza and Her Monsters and Royce Rolls are to upcoming releases that fit the bill of “its weird and I want it”.

10 – Really Great Title

I’m a fan of weird/long titles, especially ones that sound like a line of poetry.

Like “You Look Different In Real Life”, “The Catastrophic History Of You and Me”, “I’d Tell You I Loved You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You”, “They Both Die At The End”,”One of Us Is Lying” etc.

I could have no idea what the book was about, and a title like that would make me want to read it.

Do you agree with my list?

What do we have in common?

Do you participate in TTT?

Let me know and drop me a link in the comments so I can check it out!

5 Fidget Toys I Want To Try

Fidget toys are ridiculously popular right now.

Between the GMM episode, the fact that they are perpetually sold out and that more than a couple of kids at my school are selling them out of backpacks like nerdy-good-kid drug dealers – I kind of had to make this post.

Sorry if it seems a little sellout/basic/not-in-line-with-my-theme.

*Quick note, none of the links below are affiliate links, I added them of my own volition, for no personal benefit.*

Okay, I lied in the title.

This is more like: 3 I want to try and 2 things I actually use because the actual ones are expensive.

Ones I Want To Try

1 – Fidget Cube – This is the classic fidget toy. I’m a little bit basic for wanting it, but, its fun. Let me live.

2 – Spinner – These are just captivating to watch.

3 – Baoding Balls – I love the magnetic balls I own, these are similar but gigantic. Seem like fun.

Maybe one of these will stop me  from driving people in class insane with the “tapping my palms and fingers on the desk” and “clicking my pen until someone wants me dead”.

Ones I Use/Have

Mind you, I don’t own any actual branded fidget toys. But these basically follow the premise of “mess with it while you think”.

1 – Metal Slinky – I assume you all know how a slinky works. Messing with it, its basically like a fidget toy – I play with it while I wait for stuff to print.

2- Brain Shaped Squishy/stress ball thing – its a squishy/gooey/sticky rubber toy/stress ball sort of thing I got at camp. Easy to realize I want to be a neurologist right?
