Easter Book Tag

This tag was created by Rosie The Reader on Booktube. I wasn’t tagged, but…well, today is Easter. It seemed fitting. (Ignore the backlog of tags I haven’t done – which is what I’m doing).

I’ve gotten so little of my spring break reading done… But I went to the Panic! At the Disco concert last night and had a blast so all is good! So tired now…

On to the tag!

Panic! At The Disco Book Tag (Original)

Today, April 15th, I’m going to the Panic! concert here in south Florida with a group of friends, and I couldn’t find a Panic! tag that wasn’t dead and done. So I made one!

2-Answer the questions
3 – Name your favorite song from each album.

A book that confused you (in a good or bad way)

16143347
Still not sure about what ultimately we were meant to conclude in the end.

Vices & Virtues –

A book you have conflicting feelings over

23203106

I Tag:

The Nintendo Book Tag

I was tagged by the wonderful Icebreaker694 – Look at me! Getting Tags done!

The Switch came out and I’m crying because 1) expensive and 2) no time to play video games.

So, this is me coping.

NES (Nintendo Entertainment System): A classic you want to read

1885

I love adaptations of Pride and Prejudice – I want to read the original!

SNES (Super Nintendo): A sequel you liked more than the first (can be a second book in a series)

Catching Fire was my favorite book of the whole trilogy – which is weird because second / middle books are usually the worst!

17347389

The Dream Thieves was also my favorite of The Raven Boys series.

28196

Harry Potter made me love reading, but the Ghosthunter books made me want to read when I got discouraged with Harry Potter.

Gamecube: A popular book that did not go over so well with you

11614718

Everyone loves these books, but I just…didn’t.

Wii: A new favorite book

22296822

This came out earlier this year and I LOVED it – five stars and I’m dying for the next book.

NetGalley Review: The Edge of Everything

Nintendo Power: Favorite graphic novel series or a series you want to start

These are the three I’m dying to read!

Super Mario: A character that you’d love to squish like a Goomba

Like B said, I think Squish here means KILL not cuddle.

the-selection-series

America, my god did she irritate me.

Zelda: A newer fantasy that you consider to be a modern classic

harry_potter_covers_by_kid_bob-d47obxi

Is there any other answer?

Samus-Aran: Favorite sci-fi novel or one you want to read

17182126

Dying to read this!

2016 Year In Review Tag

You know how I’ve done that thing where I didn’t do tags for like 3 months and got crazy backlogged and only now have started going through them?

I found this one in my drafts. One that really should have been done in December or January at the latest.

Whoops?

I was tagged by the wonderful and patient Icebreaker694 – thank you. Sorry this is like years late.

Since this is a 2016 tag though, I’ll only use books I read last year.

TRUMP VS. CLINTON NAME YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER RIVALRY.

None of the books I read in 2016 really have character rivalries.

But I guess I’ll go with Made You Up – the pranking/small rivalries in there were really entertaining.

17661416

TURKEY FAILED COUP: A BOOK YOU STARTED BUT FAILED TO FINISH? DNF.

The Nerdy and the Dirty – the writing was good, but I didn’t like the story AT ALL.

27779274

POKEMON GO: WHAT BOOK DID YOU BUY OR READ BASED ON THE HYPE? DID YOU ENJOY IT?

16101128

My best friend recommended this to me and I enjoyed it. I have the other two books as well, but I haven’t read them.

STRANGER THINGS: WHAT’S ONE BOOK YOU WANT EVERYONE TO READ?

Going this an uncommon answer, I LOVE this book.

206491951

GAME OF THRONES, THE WALKING DEAD, MR. ROBOT: WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK CLIFFHANGER WITHIN A SERIES?

29435427

I just, I can’t, I thought it was a standalone and it wasn’t and I just…

THE TRAGIC CRISIS IN ALEPPO: NAME THE LAST BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY OR TEARY-EYED.

25663637

While finishing this one, I freaked my grandpa out by sobbing in the car.

BREXIT: NAME A BOOK YOU HAVE AN UNPOPULAR OPINION TOWARDS.

23203106

Most people didn’t seem to like this book, but I actually gave it 5 stars!

FOUR NEW ELEMENTS DISCOVERED IN THE PERIODIC TABLE: NAME AN AUTHOR YOU DISCOVERED/READ FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR.

23305614

#ALLLIVESMATTER: YOUR FAVOURITE DIVERSE READ.

29435427

This was my most diverse read of the year.

ZIKA VIRUS: A BOOK THAT SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE.

18692431

Everyone is OBSEESED.

LEONARDO DECAPRIO FINALLY WON THE OSCAR: WHAT WAS YOUR MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK RELEASE THIS YEAR?

17378527

And it was certainly worth the wait!

IN MEMORIUM: NAME A MEMORABLE CHARACTER DEATH.

6131164

You know what it is. WHO it is.

SAMSUNG PHONES: ONE BOOK THAT BLEW YOUR MIND THIS YEAR!

21787

I read this for the first time since I was 8!

I’m not going to tag anyone, no one else wants to do a tag about  months out of date.

The Cringeworthy Book Tag

I’m actually posting more than once a month? What is this? Summer?

I know, I’m shocked too. Never underestimate the power of coffee and procrastination.

I was tagged by the lovely creator of this lovely tag Icebreaker694!
She seriously makes the best tags, so what are you doing with your life if you’re not following her!

(Yes, this is more than several months late but…shhhhh)

This tag was a bit difficult because I tend to block the cringe-y books from my memory and not mark DNF’s on my goodreads.

Tag 5+ people

Horror

9014

I don’t read much horror, so this is the only vaguely cringe-y horror book I could find on my read shelf. Cringe-y mostly because some scenes are so graphic it kind of hurts to read.

Cringeworthy Scale:

1 – lowest (because gore doesn’t bother me THAT MUCH)

Love Triangle

7735333

The Love Triangle in Matched is ACTUALLY THE WORST. One of the rare books I DNF’d because I couldn’t take it. Would have been better off with a forbidden love story.

Cringeworthy Scale:

3 – easily

Sci-Fi

6583427

I read this when I was 12, and I LOVED it…up until our characters jumped into bed. Then I was skipping pages at a time because reading awkward sex scenes is just…no. Especially when you’re 12, especially when you’re ace.

Cringeworthy Scale:

3 or 4

Its been a while since I’ve read it.

Paranormal

6304335

The cringe-y-ness wasn’t super strong in this, but I couldn’t finish the series. It dragged on and on – the angst was of the melodramatic-easily-resolved-if-you-spoke-to-each-other variety and the simulated southern accent in the written dialogue kind of hurt.

Cringeworthy Scale:

2

Dystopian

667

I hated this book SO MUCH, just SO MUCH. Its irritating and preachy and isn’t a novel its a political ideology masquerading as one and NO.

Cringeworthy Scale:

4

Contemporary

6609714

Yeah this one is horrifyingly cringe-y in the romance – and its lack of – department. Its cheesy in the bad way, and the characters grated on nerves. It was the sort of thing that people call feminism and isn’t feminism that makes people hate feminism without understanding it. If that makes sense?

493566

It hurt. The characters were too stupid to live, and such stereotypical “American Teenagers” from an adult’s point of view it hurt. Everything was the most cliche version of “good girl gets drawn into drugs and sex because of a bad boy” possible just..ugh.

Cringeworthy Scale:

3 /4  – sorry I had two answers that fit this too well.

St. Patrick’s Day Tag

This tag made by Bookaflix Taylor on booktube – I wasn’t tagged, but in the spirit of the holiday…

St. Patrick’s Day  Your favourite green coloured book.

1

I own virtually no green books – but this is obviously a good one.

Corned Beef and Cabbage – A book that made you hungry.

13335037

This book describes food so much – especially cake, it makes me hungry.

Four Leaf Clover – A book or item that was a rare, good luck find.

29236299

I found a copy of this signed by BOTH authors at Target, and I was so psyched!

Irish Whiskey – A book so bad that you would need a drink to get over it.

7624

I read this for school, it was no enjoyable.

Irish Dancing – A book so good, it made you want to dance in excitement.

18007564

READ THIS BOOK!

Ireland – A book that made you want travel to a different country.

27904565

Greece and Italy are two countries highest on my bucket list.

The Pub – A meeting place in a book you’d love to go to.

33854162

Monmouth with the Raven Boys, especially my baby Noah, yes please.

I’m not tagging anyone, since its late in the day and its a tag that really, should only be done today, anyone is welcome to do it if they want though!

The Who Am I Tag

I wasn’t tagged in this but I saw it over at She Latitude and thought it looked like too much fun to not do!

And yes, I’m doing a tag I wasn’t tagged in instead of the 20+ I was tagged for that I’m behind on, don’t judge me.

(This took like 2 hours… – I now remember why I am so behind on tags)

What is the meaning of my name?

My name is Samantha, but I go by Sam.

Definition from Behind The Name – Perhaps intended to be a feminine form of SAMUEL, using the name suffix antha (possibly inspired by Greek ανθος (anthos) “flower”). It originated in America in the 18th century but was fairly uncommon until 1964, when it was popularized by the main character on the television show ‘Bewitched’.

If you asked my grandma, she’d say Samantha means “Light of God”.

Congratulations
You are left-brained.

Screen Shot 2017-03-11 at 9.17.15 AM

I’m left handed so this is weird – since the brain is contralateral to the body, lefties tend to be right-brained, unless the website is wrong and flipped things.

What is my Blood Type?

My blood type is A +

Not sure why its all that relevant.

(Please don’t steal my kidneys)

What Does My Birth Order Say About Me? (Link)

The Firstborn

Stereotype: Natural leader, ambitious, responsible.
Why it’s true: The eldest, for a while, has no competition for time (or books or baby banter) with Mom and Dad. “There’s a benefit to all of that undiluted attention. A 2007 study in Norway showed that firstborns had two to three more IQ points than the next child,” says Frank J. Sulloway, Ph.D., the author of Born to Rebel.Firstborns tend to be surrogate parents when other siblings arrive, hence their protective and responsible nature.
When it’s not: Parents can set high expectations for a first (or only) child. “When he feels like he has disappointed his parents or can’t measure up, he may veer off in another direction,” says Kevin Leman, Ph.D., a psychologist and the author of The Birth Order Book.

The Confessions of a Writer TAG

I wasn’t tagged but… I’m avoiding my writing so…

Let’s do this!

Rules of the tag:

  • Please link back to A Little Bookish, A Little Writerly’s post, so that the original rules are always accessible to anyone who is curious and wants to participate!
  • Acknowledge the person who tagged you in your post.
  • Tag your friends and fellow writers – it’s up to you how many!

When did you first start writing? Was being a writer something you always aspired to be?

Seriously writing? 14. I’ve wanted to be a writer since around then.

What genre do you write?

YA Sci-fi and fantasy mostly. Though I have some contemporary ideas…

Can you tell us a little about your current work in progress? When did you start working on this project?

-Started this summer.
-Title: Legacy of Stardust
-Tagline: To escape her legacy, she’ll have to live up to it.
I have a post about it here.

What was your first piece that you can remember writing? What was it about?

The “book” I wrote in second grade about a fictional trip my family took to the great barrier reef. It involved magical dolphins and baby turtles and a mystery about a missing necklace. Don’t judge I was 7.

If you guys are invested, I have 4(?) books I wrote as a kid that I can post, illustrations and all.

What’s the best part about writing?

People liking it and finally finishing.

What’s the worst part about writing?

Having no time, and getting stuck on the plot (which is the hardest thing for me, I much prefer world building and character making).

What’s the name of your favorite character and why? (This can be from a book by another author or from your own work. Book crushes are perfectly acceptable here as well.)

This literally changes by the hour so…

How much time a day/week do you get to write? When is the best time for you to write (morning or night)?

Night, and I write more in the summer because, well, school is a thing.

Did you go to college for writing? Or if you haven’t been to college yet, do you plan to?

Pretty much the opposite actually. I’m still in high school but I plan to go to medical school. Top choice is John Hopkins!

What bothers you more: spelling errors, punctuation errors, or grammar errors?

Grammer, I guess. I’d say spelling but since I spell like a second grader…

What is the best writing advice that anyone has given you?

Just do it, worry about what to do with it after.

What advice would you give to another writer?

See the question above.

What are your favorite writing sites or blogs that you turn to for help, tips or encouragement?

I don’t really have any…

Besides writing, what else do you enjoy doing? What are your hobbies?

Reading (duh), movies, Netflix, texting my friends, playing video games,  and I guess thats it.

What is the best book you’ve read this year?

I’ll let you know at the end of the year.

What is the best movie you’ve seen this year?

Captain America: Civil War or Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

What is your favorite book or series of all time?

Don’t make me chose… But if I have to I’d say Harry Potter.

Who is your favorite author?

Don’t make me chose things…

What are your plans for the rest of the year in terms of your writing?

Try to finish a draft for once?

Where else can we find you online?

Goodreads

Tumblr

Youtube

#WritersLife Tag

Once again, not tagged. I’m not sure who the creator is though, but it’s not me.

Write Fuel: What do you eat/drink while writing?

Iced tea and coffee. And I eat if its dinner time or something, but otherwise not.

Write Sounds: What do you listen to while writing?

Whatever my current spotify playlist is.

Write Vice: What’s your most debilitating distraction?

 Netflix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Write Horror: What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you while writing?

My stupid computer crashed a lot.  But now I have a new one so everything is GOOD!

Write Joy: What’s the best thing that’s ever happened while writing or how do you celebrate small victories?

Actually finishing. And I celebrate by, you know, Netflix. Which is counterproductive but…

Write Secret: What’s your writing secret to success or hidden flaw?

I’m bad at finishing…

Write-spiration: What always makes you productive?

The internet being down, which in my house happens a lot…

Oh, and avoiding my homework/chores.

Write Words- Share one sentence from a project. Past or present.

“She was smoke in a room of glass and mirrors. Easily seen but impossible to catch or contain without suffocating in the process.”

“You sort of turn around and walk through the universe into the elsewhere.”

“They sell salt for open wounds here.”

“In another life, she would be Connie, but less broken or maybe even more. Other lives didn’t bear thinking about, even when you knew they existed, because they weren’t you. In another life the universe might not be out to get her (the universe was always stacked against her), but it might have done her in. She is not the Connie of another universe, she is the Connie of this one. And it was time to start living in it rather than running from it. Thinking about it any other way would surely drive her insane.”
